The deputy of the Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars in Romania, Varol Amet, and the vice-president of the organization, Sesnur Suliman, attended a meeting with a delegation of Turkish officials at the end of last week, chaired by the president of the Yunus Emre Institute in Ankara, Prof. Dr. Șeref Ateș, and the President of the Superior Audiovisual Council of Turkey, Ebubekir Șahin, in the context of the international project „Turkish Language and Media Literacy in the Digital Age”.
The President of the Yunus Emre Institute in Ankara, Prof. Dr. Șeref Ateș, and the President of the Turkish Higher Audiovisual Council, Ebubekir Shahin, were in Romania at the end of last week in the context of promoting a workshop conducted by the authorities of Ankara in several European countries, called „Turkish Language and Media Literacy in the Digital Age”.
On Saturday, January 29, at the Athenee Palace Hilton Bucharest, the third workshop dedicated to the Turkish language and media literacy in the digital age took place, after Brussels and Budapest.
In his opening remarks, the President of the Turkish Higher Audiovisual Council stated that the institution is the supreme body that implements media literacy practices in Turkey. The Turkish official also said that the aim of the workshop „Turkish language and media literacy in the digital age” is to inform both citizens living abroad and Turkish-speaking friends what they should pay attention to when using digital platforms.
„Especially in the last 2 years, when everyone was locked up at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I lived a period in which I communicated more through social media. Therefore, both education and our relationships have been transferred for the most part to the online environment and this situation will be perpetuated „, said Prof. Dr. Șeref Ateș.
Prof. Dr. Hayati Inanç, lawyer and writer, and Dr. Ahmet Kılıç, member of the Board of Directors of the Authority for Information and Communication Technologies of Turkey, also gave lectures at the activity in Bucharest. Also in Bucharest, a „Fairytale and Games Workshop” took place, during which Turkish and Romanian children listened to fairy tales, played, sang and painted.
The Turkish delegation arrived in Constanța on Sunday, January 30, and visited the Museum of National History and Archeology, the Turkish Cultural Center „Yunus Emre”, but also the „Carol I” Mosque, the „Hunchiar” Mosque and the „Esmahan Sultan” Mosque from Mangalia. Also here, the President of the Yunus Emre Institute in Ankara, Prof. Dr. Șeref Ateș, and the President of the Turkish Higher Audiovisual Council, Ebubekir Shahin, had a meeting with representatives of the Tatar and Turkish ethnic communities, with the mufti Muurat Iusuf, Undersecretary from the Department for Interethnic Relations, Dincer Geafer, but also with representatives of other institutions in Constanța.
The Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars in Romania was represented at the meeting by the deputy Varol Amet and the vice-president of the organization, Sesnur Suliman.
The meeting in Constanța discussed the organization of a training for Turkish language teachers in Romania and the collaboration between Radio T, Radio ‘Türkçe’nin Sesi’ of the “Yunus Emre” Institute and Radio TRT.
The importance of communication through social networks and the accelerated digitization generated in the last two years by the pandemic context is of growing interest among the authorities, as evidenced by the workshop „Turkish language and media literacy in the digital age” organized by the Institute „Yunus Emre” from Ankara and the Higher Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Turkey, an activity to be carried out in other European capitals.
