40 young people of different ethnicities responded to the invitation of the Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars in Romania and participated on Saturday, January 22, in an online conference dedicated to paid internships at the European Commission. The event aimed to promote among young people the opportunity to get to know the European institutions closely and to build a future career at European level, in the context of the launch, earlier this year, of applications for the October 2022 training program. – February 2023.
„Participating in training courses in the country, but especially abroad, is one of the advantages that young people have today since the beginning of their careers. The few months spent in partner educational institutions in other countries, the integration into working groups with different characteristics than those in which we work every day, the actual work in European institutions, even as simple trainees, offer us, young people, important opportunities to be able to relate to international standards and to build a set of values based on a rich professional experience. Recently, the registration for a new training course at the European Commission has started, and through this conference I wanted to familiarize young people with this way of working. For Saturday’s event, we invited some young people who went through such experiences to share their views with other potential beneficiaries „, said Ateș Casimceali, vice president of the Constanța organization of UDTTMR and local councilor, who was the initiator of the event.
One of these young people who shared his experience with the conference participants was Adnan Mustafa, a cardiologist specialized in interventional procedures, who had the chance to benefit from two internships in France, one during college and the second during the residency period. „I proved to myself that we can go and do things just as well and outside, we are not inferior, in fact, maybe in certain situations we are even more ambitious and motivated. From my point of view, if there is such an opportunity, it must be capitalized, but, honestly, I would recommend that you come back home later, to be able to change something here „, was the message sent by the young Tatar doctor.
Nesrin Recep, also a young member of the Tatar community in Romania, licensed in Turkey and Spain and a master student in Belgium, also talked about the experience of the 6 years spent studying and internships abroad. After a visit to her student sister in Ankara, she fell in love with the city, the university that offered many facilities, a place with many extracurricular activities and chose to pursue her undergraduate studies there. Then came her first scholarship to Madrid: “I chose Madrid because the winters in Ankara were very hard. It was a great culture shock for me, I stayed in Madrid for a semester. I felt very independent, I had a lot of decisions to make on my own, and after 6 months in Madrid, I moved to Ankara, ”said Nesrin Regep, who also urged the young participants in the conference to take advantage of every opportunity to study or get internships abroad.
Aida Akadeniz Gavrilă, specialist in Diplomacy, International Relations and European Studies, started her experience, like the other young people, during her studies. It started with an exchange of experiences in Salzburg, followed by numerous events organized by European institutions in which he took part. All this helped her to meet new people representing different cultures, to learn her qualities and to develop both personally and professionally. „I really want at least some of you to take part in such an experience, leaving aside this professional ensemble, to have the opportunity to test the quality of life in another European state is something very great, you can make comparisons, do acquaintance with a lot of people, you can more easily find a good job „, said Aida Akadeniz Gavrilă.
Constantin Alexandru Manda, known to the young people of Constanța as a founding member and later president of the Students’ Association of Constanța, shared with those present his experience in collaboration with the European institutions. Constantin Alexandru Manda is currently a student at the Faculty of Law in Bucharest and an advocacy coordinator at the Romanian Academic Society, and last year he was named „Young European of the Year 2021”. His experience in the field of collaborations with the European institutions is extensive, with remarkable results, in the intervention he had, recommending young people to get involved as much as possible in this field.
The conference organized by UDTTMR was part of a series of events dedicated to young people and their familiarization with European values. The training courses organized by the European institutions are among the opportunities for graduates to easily integrate into the workforce and to implement European policies at a high level in the areas of activity in which the beneficiaries will work. The European Commission organizes paid training courses for university graduates twice a year. Those interested can apply for such an experience until January 31, 2022, the internship will take place between October 1, 2022 – February 28, 2023.
