Originally scheduled for the fall of 2021, the population and housing census has been postponed due to the pandemic context generated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus for next year. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the review process will take place between 1st of February and 17th of July, 2022.
At the 2022 census, the population will be able, for the first time, to fill in the online review form. The self-review will be done between 14th of March and 15th of May, 2022, and the second stage will take place between 16th of May and 17th of July, that of collecting data directly from people who have not filled in the online forms.
According to the provisions of Law no. 178/2020, another novelty in next year’s census is that access to the review forms will be made in a language of international circulation, respectively in the languages of national minorities, at the proposal of the Department for Interethnic Relations, following consultations with the Council of National Minorities. „In the administrative-territorial units where the share of the population belonging to a national minority exceeds the threshold of 20% provided by the legislation in force, each questionnaire-witness reviewer will be provided in printed form in the language of the respective national minority”, the law also states. The law also stipulates that the Council for Communication and Transparency, which will aim to ensure efficient communication of information to the population and maximum transparency of census work, will also include a representative of the Institute for the Study of National Minority Issues and a representative of the Department for Interethnic Relations.
For an objective reflection of the reality of the Tatar community in Romania, the Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars in Romania will provide the necessary support to all ethnic groups who will request additional information and clarifications regarding the conduct of the census process. The UDTTMR will also provide the translation into Tatar language of the review forms.
