The Vice President of the Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars in Romania, Samir Menan, and the President of the Medgidia Local Organization of UDTTMR, Arslan Ozghiun, participated on Wednesday, 10th of November, in the commemoration ceremony of the Great Turkish Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The activity took place at the bust located in the center of Medgidia, on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the passing of the founder of the modern Turkish state, on which occasion wreaths were laid and a moment of silence was observed.
The ceremony was organized by Medgidia City Hall. They also responded to the invitation of Mayor Valentin Vrabie to participate in this event, along with representatives of the local public administration, the leadership of the National College „Kemal Ataturk”, the mufti of the Muslim Cult in Romania, Yusuf Muurat, General Consul of the Republic of Turkey in Constanta, Emre Yurdakul and Turkish businessmen.
A commemoration ceremony of the first president of modern Turkey also took place in Bucharest, the event being organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Romania.
On 10th of November, 1938, at 9:05 a.m., Mustafa Kemal Ataturk passed away at the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. It has left behind a modern society, a reformed country and a population receptive to progress. The „father of the Turks” is responsible for a number of reforms, including the abolition of the Caliphate in 1924, the proclamation of equality between women and men, the replacement of the Arabic alphabet with the Latin alphabet in 1928.
